Portage is Wisconsin's third oldest settlement, celebrating it's 150th Anniversary in 2004. Located between the Fox and Wisconsin rivers, Portage has several historical sites including the restored Indian Agency House and Surgeon's Quarters, fourteen city parks, wonderful shopping and recreation for all. Three state and two interstate highways; an Amtrak station; and airport make Portage a very accessible city. Winter: activities include ; downhill skiing at Cascade Mountain, one of Wisconsin's top ski resorts, snowmobiling, ice fishing, curling, sledding and ice skating. During the summer months, water enthusiasts enjoy the many lakes and rivers for fishing, boating, and swimming. Several golf courses are located just outside the city. Portage hosts several events throughout the year; Concert in the Park, Taste of Portage, PumpkinFest, and Canal Days all bring the community together for entertainment, crafts and fun. Cascade Mountain

Cascade Mountain has 34 trails with BIG mountain variety! Some trails are over a mile long. Some are steep and deep. Super expert or first-time beginner, you won't get bored at Cascade! Cascade's SuperPark has the only SuperPipe in the Midwest. It's longer and steeper than the one used for the winter X-Games in Aspen. An area the size of Cascade needs lots of lifts to get you to the top. Cascade has 10 lifts, including the first high-speed quad chair in the state. Home of the Perfect Storm! Every weekend, the popular North Wall trail is blanketed with fresh snow so you can make tracks first thing in the morning (weather permitting).
