Portage is Wisconsin's third oldest settlement, celebrating it's 150th Anniversary in 2004. Located between the Fox and Wisconsin rivers, Portage has several historical sites including the restored Indian Agency House and Surgeon's Quarters, fourteen city parks, wonderful shopping and recreation for all. Three state and two interstate highways; an Amtrak station; and airport make Portage a very accessible city. Winter: activities include ; downhill skiing at Cascade Mountain, one of Wisconsin's top ski resorts, snowmobiling, ice fishing, curling, sledding and ice skating. During the summer months, water enthusiasts enjoy the many lakes and rivers for fishing, boating, and swimming. Several golf courses are located just outside the city.
