Lodi Woman’s Club Tour of Homes

Features six sites that are all

“More than Just a Home”

In this day of multi-tasking, few homes serve just one purpose.  Many modern homes also contain something extra: for example, a home-based business, a peaceful garden, a haven for hobbies, or a special place for relaxation.  That description fits each of the homes on this year’s Lodi Woman’s Club’s tour – all are truly “More than Just a Home”.

The tour of homes will be held on Saturday, August 21st from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Six homes are featured: three around the city of Lodi and three are just north of Lodi at Okee.  Visitors may tour the homes in any order they wish.

Tour tickets are $8 each.  Children under age two will be admitted free, but must be held by an adult.  Tickets will be available for sale in Lodi at the Public Library, Associated Bank, Amcore Bank, Community Business Bank and at the tour homes the day of the event.  Proceeds are used to support the local scholarship fund and the Lodi Public Library.

Highlights of the tour homes:

  • Mark and Mary Wickham gained a whole extra building on their property when the family business closed.  Since then, “The Shop” has become a premiere entertainment space: upgraded and remodeled, the space is home to an extensive collection of Anheuser-Busch memorabilia, theatre popcorn, professional coolers and a CD jukebox.
  • Mementos of exotic world travels add spice to the warm lake home of Ted and Jane Poelma.  Avid crafters, the Poelma’s handiwork is featured throughout the home, and Jane’s carefully cultivated gardens invite you out across the yard and right up to the shore of Lake Wisconsin.
  • Joyce McCubbin and Ed and Judy Schultz wanted maintenance-free living spaces so they could relax and enjoy their retirement years.  Each owns part of a unique, L-shaped duplex that sits on a corner lot, allowing separate, independent frontages for their entrances and driveways.  Both sides feel like a separate home, yet still allow the convenience and ease of living that a condo can provide.  Visitors will enjoy the different decorating style of each – Joyce’s home is filled with antiques and interesting collections, while the Schultz home is all new and thoroughly modern.
  • Perched atop Slack Hill, Betty Irwin’s contemporary home features a million-dollar view of Okee Bay, Lake Wisconsin and the surrounding countryside.  The home’s crisp décor is classic traditional with influences from the Irwin’s Florida winters.
  • The Skinner’s log home features not one but two amazing workshops: the garage is a wood-worker’s dream (where much of the home’s custom woodwork was produced) and the lower level contains Mindy’s quilting studio and professional long-arm machine.  The home’s rustic feel, is accented with lots of wood, fieldstone accents, and an amazing lake view.

Other items of interest:

The Lodi Woman’s Club will be selling raffle tickets at each of the tour homes.  A full/queen size quilt, “Tuscany Lone Star”, by Mindy Skinner is the drawing’s grand prize.  The lovely mossy green, cream and rose-colored quilt will be on display at the Skinner home during the tour.  “Amaryllis by Morning”, a photographic print by local photographer Gary N-Ski is the raffle’s first prize.  The contemporary flower photograph will be on display the day of the tour also.

Raffle tickets are 6 for $5 or $1 each and the drawing will be held on Saturday, August 28th at 1 p.m. at the Lodi Public Library.  Proceeds are used to support the local scholarship fund and the Lodi Public Library.
