The Bridges of Columbia County |
Have you ever driven across a wooden bridge at 5mph and heard the clunkety-clunk of the plank deck as it rises and falls under your wheels? If not, you are among a vast majority of people who will probably never drive across a wooden highway bridge, unless you visit the Bridges of Columbia County! Re-live the early days of the 1900s when wooden bridges dotted the landscape and the standard vehicle in rural America was the horse and buggy! See 4 wooden bridges, 1 remodeled with a steel deck, and 2 cement arch bridges - plus an old and almost forgotten steel bridge crossing the Crawfish River at Columbus. Make a day of it! Plenty of other points of interest along the way for your enjoyment. A statue of Christopher Columbus just outside the City of Columbus on Hwy 16. Beautiful scenery along our Columbia County roads. Plenty of places to eat and shop in each town...and along the rural roads of the tour. Click-On a name link below to learn more about the rural businesses and community businesses represented by the orange squares on the map. The community links contain multiple listings:
Pride Originals - An Amish heritage custom furniture maker at Cambria. New Bohlings - Early 1900s motif. Men's Big & Tall. European toys/gifts. Christopher Radko. Columbus Antique Mall and Museum Wisconsin's largest antique mall! Over 72,000 square feet of antiques displayed and sold by 180 of Wisconsin's finest dealers in 400 booths!
