Thousands of people enjoy the Friesland Fireworks held each year on the Fourth of July!

Friesland is a village of approximately 300 people. Located in the northeast corner of Columbia County. In 1844, Welsh settlers came to the area and later, between 1893 and 1918, German and Dutch settlers arrived.

The settlers first called this community Randolph Center, but it was changed to Friesland in 1910 when the railroad and post office came to the village. The change was precipitated due to the the village of Randolph being just seven miles down the road. Friesland was chosen as the village name because of the many Dutch settlers, some of whom came from the province of Friesland in the Netherlands.

Visitors to Friesland can stop at the historic grocery store, founded 100 years ago by Tounis Tillema. June through August, villagers keep another tradition alive with their popular old fashioned band concerts and pie socials. The concerts begin at 8pm every Tuesday in the downtown Village Park and draw people from miles around!
