Indians settled Lomira in 1840. In 1843 white settlers from New York and various European countries started arriving. Soon stagecoaches serviced Lomira using the historic Yellowstone Road, now Hwy 175. In 1871 the railroad arrived and spurred growth. Lomira was incorporated into a village in 1899 with a population of 433 and a size of 530 acres! Early businesses were a hotel, brewery, shoe factory, blacksmith shop, campground and a hat shop. Today light industry and a vibrant commercial community support a strong economy. Lomira continues to be strongly linked to a thriving agricultural economy. The Lomira area offers excellent wildlife opportunities for both sportsmen and conservationists!
