Wisconsin Polka

Hall of Fame

Established in 1996

Mission Statement

The Wisconsin Polka Hall of Fame will recognize the bands and leaders, as well as those who teach polka music, teach polka dancing, promote polkas, and any accomplishments in the field of polka music.  The Hall of Fame will establish a membership of polka band members, leaders and polka music fans to biennially, in the odd numbered years, nominate and thereafter vote for the person(s) of their choice in each fame category specified; and will also conduct the nomination and election of board members and officers in the even number years.

Nominees and Inductees

The selecting and voting for the nominees and inductees into the hall of fame is done by the membership at large, with each member, the board and trustees included, casting one vote. The process begins in late summer when nomination requests are mailed to the entire roster of members. The returned forms are presented, unopened, to a certified public accountant for tabulation, and the results are returned to the WPHOF Board.

The qualified nominees are posted on a ballot in their appropriate categories and again, it is sent to the entire membership for voting. The tabulation process is repeated and the resulting information permits the board to manufacture the awards, plaques, etc. This, in late fall, culminates in the awards ceremony.

Membership

As a member of the Wisconsin Polka Hall of Fame (WPHOF) you have the opportunity to nominate prominent musicians and members of the polka community for possible induction into the WPHOF. Many are nominated each award year, and the recipients with the greatest number of nominations have their names listed on the final ballot. The entire membership then decides the winner(s) in each of the categories. If your favorite doesn't win, you have the benefit of nominating him/her again, next voting cycle. Promotion is helpful.

Membership is $14 annually. If you sign-up for two years ($28), you will receive a CD or cassette copy of Polka Hall of Famers Volume One, a $15 value! Lifetime membership is $100 and entitles you to Polka Hall of Famers Volume One, and all future volumes, as they are created. These albums are certain to become collectors items because none will ever be sold, they are membership premiums only!

To apply for membership,

contact Maureen Hornung at E-mail or (262) 677-1680.

For general information call any officer or trustee.

Slovenian Triglav Park Picnic Schedule 2007
....................................................................

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For those who have not yet been to Triglav Park, it is located SW of Wind Lake across from Heg Park, off Loomis Road. Heading South, turn right just after the statue of the Colonel, it's a loooooooooooong driveway with a 20 mph speed limit. The setting is beautiful with a lake for swimming, picnic benches ( they fill up fast, so bring your own chairs), Lot's of Oak trees for shade, strolling button box musicians, Balina courts, homemade bakery, raffels, great music and of course, the best chicken and Slovenian sausage dinners, and the coldest beer in Racine County. (Remember Arcadian Park on Greenfield Ave?) Lots of Room for the kids and a nice playground, too. Bring Gramma and Grampa, they'll love it.
