Columbia-Marquette Pheasants Forever Meeting 3/6/13
Spring is on the horizon, Deer are on the move and Pheasants are on the road sides looking for relief from a long winter. We have seen too much snow and cold in this season for all of God’s creatures. The Habitat we help provide lends to better survival of these creatures. Pheasants Forever can help but only with your participation. Thank you!
a) Treasures report: Balance on hand $6,824.80. News Flash, our $100 to PF along with other chapters funded a ring neck PF membership for 1200 kids at the recent Pheasant Fest. Thank you for your help!
b) Baraboo Youth day to be held 5/18/2013. This event will feature demonstrations, activities, displays and information areas. We expect 1500 participants of which the majority will be young people. Our part of the show will be to co-operate with the Sauk county chapter with activities and information on PF. We will need 6 to 9 volunteers to help out. Bill Dabbs and Joe Schultz will lead our efforts.
c) Statewide PF Youth Shoot will be held at the Portage Rod and Gun club. The date will be confirmed in the future but will be held early summer. We will offer Ring neck memberships at a reduced price. Our chapter will provide help with the event and furnish food for participating youth.
d) Recent Pheasant Fest proclaimed a success! Bill Dabbs attended the event and helped set up prior to the event and worked every day to help make it succeed. He reports a very informational event and “lots of fun”. Next year’s event will be held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. PF members need to take advantage of this opportunity. More to come!
e) Youth Council. This council is taking shape with new members and ideas coming forth to shape the future of this council. Our Representative, Spencer Atkinson is faithfully serving our chapter.
f) Habitat Report by Eric Krueger. A new CRP sign will begin 5/20 and run to 6/14/2013. The goal is to bring the total acres up to 32 million in the USA. CRP rental rate per acre will be increased.
g) Fall PF Fundraiser will move to Cascade Mountain as directed by a motion by Joe Schultz, seconded by Bill Dabbs and supported by our board. This move will enable us to entertain more people and offer additional features. Our goal is to make this event a fun night for you, friends and family. Get ready for the 10/3/2013 Columbia-Marquette Pheasants Forever Fall Extravaganza!
h) Bill Dabbs made the motion to attend the 2013 Columbia County Fair and to offer an event Raffle. This was seconded by Spencer with the proposal carried. This event is 7/24-28/2013.
i) Motion by Joe to upgrade our present web site and incorporate on face book. This was seconded by Bill Schaller and carried by the group. Cost approximately $500.
j) Suggestion by Bill Dabbs to create a chapter Pf business card with names and responsibilities listed. He also suggested that we have to promote our events more aggressively.
k) Motion to adjourn by Spencer, seconded by Bill Schaller and carried by the group
l) Attendance: Bill Schaller, President; Spencer Atkinson, YC; Bill Dabbs, VP; Joe Schultz, BC; Eric Krueger; Doug Fendry, PF Wildlife Biologist; and Larry A.

COLUMBIA/MARQUETTE PHEASANTS FOREVER MINUTES Feb 6 2013
Change is inevitable but it can be influenced with work, perseverance and a vision. Belonging to Pheasants Forever or another likeminded organization allows us to help fulfill the vision of habitat for all wildlife. We also fulfill our heritage in passing along the joy of the outdoors. I’m sure you remember your first pheasant hunt and flushed bird, our youth need this experience. You are part of this cycle when you contribute in time money to this great organization! Thank You!
#1. Treasures report tabled for this month.
#2. Banquet discussion centered on how to convert this to a better event. Location, program and food are on the “table” for discussion. The goal is to improve the evening enjoyment and attendance. Stay tuned for announcements. The date for this event is 10/3/2013
#3. NAWCA Grant is complete. Our share of the improvements is paid. We will be planting more prairies, removing brush and adding acres all on public grounds. Thanks again to all who contributed.
#4. Baraboo Youth Day is to be held 5/18/2013. 1,500 adults and youth are expected to attend this event. We have been asked to present PF activities and opportunities. Rock and Sauk are willing to help and we will also ask national to participate.
#5.Pheasant Fest is at hand. National has asked each chapter to donate $100.00 to fund memberships to the Youth Ring Neck Group. Bill Dabbs motioned to approve with Joe Schultz offering a second. All approved.
#6. PF State Wide Youth Trap Shoot to be held at Portage Rod and Gun Club. We have been asked to provide food and help. This is an event that you may consider being a part of the “help” for our chapter. We would appreciate this very much. Contact Bill Schaller. This will be held 6/15/13
#7. Our DNR will sponsor Ruff Grouse training in our area. This will be habitat training. Please register with Bob Knack at the Poynette Pheasant Facility by 6/15/13.
#8. Our Web Site needs a fresh look. This is under review and will be discussed further.
#9. Motion to adjourn at 8:20 p.m. by Bill Dabbs, seconded by Greg Offer. Motion carried.
Attendance: Bill Schaller; Pres., Greg Offer, Joe Schultz, Bill Dabbs, and our welcome extended to Kevin Calkins of Pardeeville.
Have a great winter, Larry A Dykstra; Secretary
